Donations or gifts to SolarWAVE Action are not tax deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes. Donations are also not deductible for California state income tax purposes.
For donors who are businesses or self-employed individuals, donations may be partially deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses under IRC § 162, except to the extent the contribution is used for lobbying or political activities. Under IRC § 162(e), the portion of dues or donations attributable to lobbying expenditures is not deductible as a business expense. SolarWAVE Action will provide, on year-end acknowledgments and upon request, the percentage of donations allocable to lobbying activities for the relevant period.
You acknowledge and agree that SolarWAVE Action may use donations, in SolarWAVE Action's discretion and consistent with applicable law, to support SolarWAVE Action's mission and activities, including research, education, advocacy, and lobbying, and that a substantial part of SolarWAVE Action's activities may consist of carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, consistent with SolarWAVE Action's status under Section 501(c)(4). You further acknowledge that SolarWAVE Action's activities may include public communications and other lawful efforts to influence legislation and public policy. As a reminder, SolarWAVE Action's mission includes: (a) research, data analysis, and publication of reports addressing the social, economic, and environmental impacts of distributed solar energy; (b) public education and communications regarding energy policy, distributed energy resources, and clean energy systems; (c) advocacy directed at policymakers, regulators, and the public; and (d) lobbying activities, including efforts to influence federal, state, and local legislation. A material portion of donations may be used for lobbying activities.
Donations to SolarWAVE Action are generally non-refundable. Donors who believe a contribution was made in error should contact us at communications@solarwaveaction.org within 30 days of the transaction. SolarWAVE Action will review refund requests on a case-by-case basis and reserves the right to grant or deny refunds in its sole discretion, subject to applicable law.
If you elect to make a recurring contribution, your selected payment method will be charged on the schedule disclosed at the time of your gift (for example, monthly or annually) until you cancel. You may cancel a recurring contribution at any time by contacting communications@solarwaveaction.org or by following the cancellation instructions in your donation confirmation email. Cancellation will be effective for billing cycles following our receipt of your request. This recurring authorization is provided in accordance with the California Automatic Renewal Law (Business & Professions Code § 17602).
Donations are processed by Stripe, and your payment information is transmitted directly to the processor in encrypted form. SolarWAVE Action does not store full payment card numbers. Information you provide in connection with a contribution is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Donations are made to support SolarWAVE Action's mission and are not made in exchange for goods or services unless expressly stated at the point of payment. No part of SolarWAVE Action's net earnings shall inure to the benefit of any director, officer, member, or private person, except as permitted by law for reasonable compensation for services rendered and reimbursement of expenses.
